The Phoenicia Festival of the Voice Foundation is in its sixth year of offering a five day series of concerts. These highlight the human voice in many of the fabulous forms in which it expresses itself. Over a period of five days some 30 events will take place in the Phoenicia Park. This year the Festival honors America and American music. Broadway, barbershop, jazz, and three operas are obvious choices but an Armonium invented by Ben Franklin and choral music from the time of Columbus…what other wonders might there be.
The Foundation also hosts CAPA (Catskill Academy of the Performing Arts), which offers music education year around and annually offers Working With Masters, a five day intensive camp for children who love to sing. Drawing on the musicians and actors of the area the program empowers children to master music through song. The teaching philosophy uses programs developed by Zoltan Kodaly and Carl Orff as a base.
